(Day One)
Depart from either Phoenix
or Flagstaff. Travel through the largest stand of Ponderosa Pine
Forest in the world en route to Walnut Canyon National Park. Have an
opportunity to walk within the canyon and view Sinaguan Prehistoric
Sites along the Island Trail. Continue on to Meteor Crater, the most
perfectly preserved meteorite site in the world. Have a sumptuous
western lunch at the Historic La Posada Harvey House in Winslow.
After lunch, travel south to the Rock Art Ranch where prehistoric and
ancient pictographs, one to thirteen centuries old exist. Have the
opportunity to leisurely examine and photograph these unusual
drawings while walking through the spectacular and unique
environment of Chevelon Canyon. Return to Winslow and the La Posada
Hotel for an outstanding southwestern dinner and memorable nights
stay.
(Day Two)
Rise early and enjoy a delightful
breakfast within the garden patio of La Posada Hotel. Travel north,
through the magnificent and colorful Painted Desert landscape of
Northern Arizona. Visit briefly, the recently excavated and pre-Hopi
Homolovi ruins, parts of which date back to the fourth century A.D.
Continue on to the spectacular Grand Falls and tour Sunset Crater
and Wupatki National Monuments. Have a hearty lunch at the Historic
Cameron Trading Post on the Navajo Indian Reservation. View the San
Francisco Peaks again from the north en route to Montezuma Castle;
the most perfectly preserved prehistoric cliff dwelling in the
United States. View the Castle and informative museum on site.
Continue on to either Phoenix or Flagstaff while experiencing a
colorful Arizona sunset amidst either Saguaro Cactus or Oak Creek
Canyon.
